The College is sited on Gunnai-Kurnai land and has adjacent campuses separated by the Bairnsdale Aquatic and Recreation Centre.. The Junior Campus on Wallace Street caters for students in Years 7-10 and the Senior Campus on McKean Street specialises in Later Years education for students in Years 11 and 12. A third Campus, Changing Lanes, is located in Rupert Street.
Our students enjoy the support of a strong student wellbeing team, expert course and career counselling and a wide variety of extra curricula activities including sport , an extensive music program, and international excursions. Their learning is facilitated by experienced, committed and professional staff.
The College learning program is based on the major transition points in secondary education. The Year 7 learning model is based on teacher teams to improve engagement and connectedness facilitating cross disciplinary and collaborative learning. In Years 8-12 all students at the College are provided with an individual learning program and pathway to promote student decision making and student centred learning.. The learning program is staged through phases rather than age and provides for flexible learning and personalised programs. Transition to the community for work or to further study is the focus of the Later Years Program which offers a range of diverse pathways for all students and involves significant partnerships with community agencies and local industry. The College has equally strong and successful VCE, VCAL and Vocational Education streams to cater for all student outcomes.
There is a whole school focus on literacy learning based on the teaching of the Highly Effective Literacy Strategies and the College has worked in partnership with Professor John Munro from Melbourne University to implement the strategies over the past three years. The College works closely with the Dare to Lead organisation and the Institute of Indigenous Leadership to continuously improve outcomes for Koorie students. A Clontarff Academy opened at the school in 2010.
