Gnurad-Gundidj Leadership School Project

The six students who attended the Gnurad-Gundidj Leadership School during Term 2 have been working on completing their Community Learning Project (CLP). This project represents the culmination of the students’ participation in the school’s leadership development program. It is their responsibility to carry out a sustainable project in their community upon return to school. Nicole Biggs, Georgia Buckland, Marley Burns, Will Burnham, Steve Fletcher and Nick Harris elected to start developing ideas and plans for celebrating Bairnsdale High School/Secondary College’s 100th Anniversary in 2012.

During Term 3 they have held meetings to plan strategies to contact past students and staff, and collect memorabilia. They have made contact with a local group of about 40 past students/staff that meet monthly and have a network that reaches another  50+ past high school members as far away as Darwin. The six students have been invited to attend their luncheon meetings and plan to make it to this month’s meeting and gather further contacts and historical information. This term, they will visit the Bairnsdale Historical Museum and interview local past teachers and students while collecting a database of memorabilia (photos, etc.).

To complete their project, the students will present their plan for a weekend of activities in 2012 along with a record of their findings to pass on to any future organising groups. This could be in electronic (DVD) or written (booklet) form.

Anyone who may have some contributions or interest in the BHS 100th Anniversary celebrations can contact the students above or me at the college.
