Videoconferencing technology offers a great potential for learning
Some science classes have recently been able to utilise the videoconference room to connect with others across East Gippsland and around the world. Students in the subject ‘Water: Think Global, Act Local’ investigated microscopic creatures of the swamp with the guidance of a water expert, Kim Snyder from East Gippsland Catchment Management Authority, who communicated with the students from Orbost. Also during the week, a class of ‘Forensic Evidence’ students participated in a live videoconference class with a Forensic Investigator located in Fort Worth, Texas, USA. Ron Singer is a renowned forensic investigator who has been consulted by television shows such as CSI and he was also an investigator involved with the Waco Massacre of 1993. The videoconferencing technology offers a great potential for learning and already more videoconferences have been planned for next year.
